In Hombolo, our partner builds up a student’s home, which will be optimized by us in a water- and energyefficient manner. Our first project according to this (find more information here) was the construction of a well. This well will supply water to the student’s home, nearby student homes and can also be used by the inhabitants of Hombolo. They can buy the water for a small fee, which is 100 Tanzania-Shilling per 10 Liters of water (4 €-ct). This is similar to another well in Hombolo.
The well in Hombolo was drilled 150 m deep, according to the hydrogeological measurement. An electrical pump transports the water to a 5000-liter storage tank. This tank has two outlets, to allow the simultaneous filling of two buckets. The pump is switched on and off manually to fill the tank. THe quality of the water is according to the analysis suitable for human consumption, so boiling prior to use is not mandatory anymore. ALso, the salt content is lower than in the other well in Hombolo. Students and inhabitants of Hombolo now have access to healthy water.
