The group in Bayreuth currently deals with two projects in Ghana in the areas of “water Supply” and “Recycling”. On the one hand we aim to regenerate wells in different villages near Sunyani and Kumasi to enhance the supply of water. Furthermore, the village residents shall be trained in upkeep of the wells. Another project aims to improve the recycling of plastic waste, especially of water sachets by implementing waste bins at schools and teaching the students how plastic affects the environment. After collecting the plastic waste, it is intended to be brought to a recycling plant where it is converted into oil. In both projects we work together with our local members of TwB Ghana. In former projects we established an uninterruptible energy supply in the St. Martin De Porres Hospital in Eikwe/Western Region which is affected by irregular power outages. Additionally, we visited two schools in Akrofrom and worked out the consequences of contaminated water due to incorrect waste management. Furthermore, they explained the importance and benefits of recycling. In addition to these training courses, toilets were installed at one of those schools. These toilets don’t use water and help to improve the sanitary conditions of the school.

Our regional group currently meets every Monday via Zoom. If you are interested in our work, you are always welcome to join us by requesting the Zoom link via e-mail.

Borehole regenerations in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Ghana

Many villages in the Brong-Ahafo Region in Ghana suffer from an insufficient water supply. The boreholes are limited or even not usable due to poor water quality, low water flow rate or broken pumps. A low water flow rate can be explained by clogging of the well through chalk and manganese and iron oxides. This […]

Water supply for the Brong-Ahafo- and the Ashanti-Region

In many villages in Ghana the drinking water is attended by wells. However, many wells are not functioning due to siltation, defect pumps or clocking of the well. The letter is a natural aging process which results from the formation of iron and manganese oxides and decreases the water flow rate until no water can […]
